Discoveries: Old closet gems from Mommy
Rediscovering my late mother's old clothes and seeking connection
Yesterday, my dad made me rummage through a few suitcases and baskets of old clothes that we owned, which included a plethora of pieces from my late mother’s clothing collection.
Even though I’ve already owned a handful of pieces from her, I still felt reluctant about owning more. Our sense of style may be different from one another, and we probably have different sizes in clothes.
But I allowed myself to try some of the clothes that she had. It’s nice to play dress up, anyway. Who knows, her clothes might be some of the pieces that I needed in my own wardrobe. Here’s a roundup of some of the items that I picked up from her. No photos yet, since I need to have them washed.
A pair of slinky black garterized pants.
This is my top pick out of all of her pieces, since it’s something that I see myself wearing almost every day.
A daster in navy
Because dasters are a way of life, and they’re cozy AF.
A daisy-printed dress with a Peter Pan collar
I have a love affair with Peter Pan collars or high-necked dresses.
A maxi skirt in black velvet
Great for parties and feeling vampy. Also has a slit!
A pair of flared ankle-length pants in khaki.
This pair of pants reminded me of the stuff that I saw in Zara, lol.
I’m excited to wear these things out and show them off. Having these pieces is a reminder for me to get creative with my fashion choices, while also paying homage to one of my OG fashion icons, my mom.
