Attempts at Styling: Three Recent Outfits That Brought Joy (and Comfort)
What to wear when working from a coffee shop + K-pop event-friendly outfits
Hello hello! Welcome to another installment of Attempts at Styling. For this edition, I’m going to talk about the things that I wore recently, and how these outfits made me feel good.
But before anything else, allow me to share a brief description of my personal style, based on Allison Bornstein’s Three-Word Method: cozy, classic, and fun. Let me break it down for you:
Cozy - I have a lot of sweaters and pajama-like pants. I also love oversized silhouettes and clothes that have stretch in them, as a way to honor my ever-changing body.
Classic - I have a lot of outfits in basic colors, and I can mix and match them with the fun bits of my closet.
Fun - To me, dressing in a more fun way also means embracing colors and prints or showing up in more skin-baring outfits.
With these words in mind, here are three outfits that I wore recently!
Outfit 1
Recess Come At Me pullover in Baby, Uniqlo cotton relaxed ankle pants, dog carrier bag from Shopee, New Balance 697 in Silver Mint
This is a version of my go-to outfit for the cooler weather: a sweater/long-sleeved shirt/pullover, a garterized pant, and a pair of comfy shoes. The bag was supposed to be for Berry. Apparently, he’s already too big for those, so I use it as an errand bag.
As for the shoes, I got it from my friend Marga on Carousell. I got it repaired, but it’s still super comfortable to walk in.
Outfit 2
Owa Sylvia Cupcake dress in Jam, Momofuku Milk Bar Birthday Cake tote, Payless Step One Mary Jane flats
This is the outfit I wore to the NCT Dojaejung fan concert last Saturday. Although the outfit theme of the fan concert was neutral tones, I decided to go against the grain by wearing something inspired by the song, Strawberry Sunday.
My Owa Sylvia dress is a secondhand purchase from Carousell. I now get the hype towards an Owa Sylvia dress: it’s whimsical, yet classic, comfortable, and versatile. I can wear it to work, to a wedding party, or even to a concert!
T-shirt from Shopee, Uniqlo men’s work jeans, Longchamp Le Pliage Neo medium, Cotton On flats
Another comfy, dog mom-worthy outfit! I had the jeans altered to fit my short frame more. The flats make it more feminine, while the bag makes the whole look a little more colorful.
Overall, this look is an updated take on my pre-pandemic safety outfit. My go-to outfit is a striped shirt, skinny jeans, and a pair of ballet flats. This time around, I opted for a pair of garterized denim work pants from Uniqlo, which is more comfortable.
And that concludes another fashion-related post! I hope I can do this more, and I hope that writing about fashion from the POV of a non-fashion person doesn’t have to feel cringy or judgmental anymore.
Here’s to repeating more outfits,
Lea
